Building According to God’s Design
Marriage and Family: God’s Sacred Institutions
Marriage and family are sacred institutions established by God. They are designed not just for companionship and stability but to reflect deeper spiritual truths. A marriage rooted in biblical principles mirrors Christ’s love for the church, offering the world a glimpse of God’s grace, sacrifice, and covenant love.
Paul teaches clearly:
“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.” (Ephesians 5:22–23, KJV)
“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;” (Ephesians 5:25, KJV)
Biblical marriage is a partnership shaped by mutual love, respect, and responsibility. Wives honour and support their husbands as they would Christ, and husbands are called to lead with sacrificial love, putting their wives’ well-being above their own, just as Christ laid down His life for the church.
Family Relationships: Living Out the Gospel
Family life is intended to be an ongoing testimony of the Gospel. Love, respect, patience, and mutual submission must mark every relationship in the home. It is not about dominance or control but about serving one another out of reverence for Christ.
In all family dynamics, believers are called to practice humility, kindness, forgiveness, and peace. A strong, godly family is not free from conflict, but it is committed to forgiveness and reconciliation, modeling Christ’s forgiveness toward us.
Cross-Reference:
“Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.” (Colossians 3:13, KJV)
Conclusion
Building marriage and family according to God’s design requires intentionality and daily reliance on the Holy Spirit. When love, respect, forgiveness, and humility are at the core, homes become a living testimony of God’s grace. A marriage and family built on the foundation of Christ will endure and glorify God, providing a witness to the world of His faithful love.
